Osamu Suzuki, the former chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 94. Suzuki was a renowned figure in the automotive industry, leading Suzuki Motor Corp to become one of the world's largest automakers.

During his tenure as chairman, Suzuki played a crucial role in transforming the company into a global player. Nonetheless, Suzuki's thriftiness was legendary: even at an advanced age, he would have factory ceilings lowered to save on air conditioning and fly economy class on aeroplanes.

Under Suzuki's leadership, Suzuki Motor Corp. increased its presence in India, becoming the country's largest automaker through its subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Suzuki's vision and strategic decisions contributed significantly to the company's success in India.

According to Bloomberg, Osamu Suzuki entered into collaborations with General Motors Co. and Volkswagen AG to sell vehicles in North America and Europe, as well as a capital alliance relationship with Toyota in 2019.

Suzuki's death marks the end of an era for Suzuki Motor Corp., but his legacy will continue to influence the company's future. His contributions to the motor industry will be recognised for years.
